What an AI rewriter actually changes
A good rewriter works on structure, not vocabulary. It reads the whole sentence, works out what it is doing — making a claim, conceding a point, giving an example — and then rebuilds it: splitting a long sentence in two, moving the subject, turning a passive construction active, cutting a clause that was carrying no weight. Word choice changes as a side effect of that, not as the goal. This is the difference that decides whether a rewrite reads like writing or like a thesaurus attack, and it is why "change 30% of the words" tools produce text that is technically different and obviously worse.
Rewriter, paraphraser, spinner, humanizer — four different jobs
These four words get used interchangeably and they should not be. A paraphraser restates one passage faithfully, usually for citation purposes. A rewriter is broader: it restates AND improves, so you can ask for shorter, clearer, more formal, or more casual. A spinner does mechanical synonym substitution with no understanding, which is why spun text reads broken. A humanizer is narrower than all of them — it targets the specific statistical signals AI detectors score on, which is a different objective from "say this better". A worked example
Take a typical AI draft sentence: "In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, it is important to note that organizations must leverage innovative solutions in order to remain competitive." A spinner returns "In today's swiftly developing digital terrain, it is significant to remark that establishments must utilize inventive resolutions so as to stay competitive" — every word moved, every problem intact, and now it reads wrong. The Standard rewrite returns: "Digital tools change fast, and companies that do not adopt them fall behind." Half the length, the padding gone, the claim unchanged. The second version is different because the sentence was rebuilt around its actual point rather than word-swapped in place.
Does rewriting remove AI detection?
Partly, and less than most pages selling rewriters will tell you. Detectors score how predictable your word choice is and how much your sentence lengths vary. A genuine rewrite changes both, so scores usually drop. But a rewriter is optimising for clarity, and clear writing is often statistically smooth writing — which is the same fingerprint detectors look for. Does rewriting make text plagiarism-free?
No, and this is worth being blunt about. Plagiarism is about attribution, not word overlap. If the ideas, structure, or findings came from a source, rewording them changes nothing about your obligation to cite it — and rewriting someone else's work closely enough to keep its argument while removing its sentences has a name in most academic codes, which is patchwriting. Rewriting your OWN draft is entirely fine and is what this tool is for. Rewriting a source to avoid a citation is not a tooling question, and no rewriter can make it one.

Standard is the default and the right answer most of the time: same meaning, fresh phrasing, no change in register. Reach for Formal when a draft is too conversational for academic or client-facing work, and Casual when the opposite is true. Shorter is the most underrated of the six — most first drafts, human or AI, are 20–30% longer than they need to be, and cutting is the single fastest way to make writing better. Creative changes rhythm and verb choice and is best kept to marketing copy, where a bolder voice helps and precision matters less.
